This creation was Mirai Nagasu’s 2014 short program dress to Rachmaninoff’s ‘Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini’.
To be honest, I love classical music, and when she told me this was her choice for the short program, I couldn’t wait to get started on the design. This music is beautiful and we needed something that honored that delicate and romantic feel of the music.
Mirai had asked for something in the purple family for the dress, and we both felt that this royal purple was just vivid enough to complement her skin tones without being too dark.
This one-sleeved, asymmetrical design achieves the look we were aiming for. Elegant, branched diagonal stoning adds a flowing sense of movement to the dress.
This dress has been featured in the USFSA Skating Museum in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
